Associates Council Candidates
As your current Associates Council Chair, I’ve worked on projects ranging from the highly visible to the decidedly unglamorous.
One of my goals, achieved last year, was to increase the Associates Council’s involvement in the PRSA-SATW Travel and Tourism Conference. Our new PRSA partnership gives SATW greater visibility at the event, includes a reciprocal agreement stating that PRSA will underwrite a professional development session or key speaker at SATW’s annual Society convention, and awards us two complimentary registrations to the Travel and Tourism conference. I’ve instituted a tradition of holding a drawing to award those registrations to Council members whose budgets might otherwise not allow them to attend the conference.
In an effort to boost Associate membership with qualified tourism communications professionals, we have also instituted a special offer to attendees of the PRSA-SATW Travel and Tourism conference. We offered to waive the $125 SATW application fee for any conference attendees who applied for SATW membership within 60 days of the end of the Travel and Tourism Conference. We’ll be making that offer again this year to the conference attendees in Houston.
A more visible project is the monthly Associates Council e-Update that I began shortly after taking office. And in the decidedly unglamorous category, we recently brought the Council’s bylaws into compliance with the Society’s. Associates Council Treasurer Molly Blaisdell and I are now working with SATW headquarters to ensure that the Council’s finances are following best practices.
I have enjoyed my time as your Associates Council Chair, and I would love the chance to continue working on your behalf.
